Anshuman Jhingran, an open water swimmer, created history on July 17, 2023, when he accomplished the incredible feat of crossing the difficult North Channel at the young age of 18 years, and 125 days. With this amazing feat, Anshuman has now earned his spot in the coveted Guinness World Records. He becomes one of just 114 people who have efficiently crossed the channel since the year 1947.

The North Channel, which lies between Scotland and Northern Ireland, is known as the toughest of the Ocean Seven Swims because of its chilly waters, dangerous lion’s main jellyfish, and persistent tides and currents that last all the way to the finish line. The fact that Anshuman successfully completed this challenging task at such a young age is evidence of his outstanding talent and persistence.

Anshuman Jhingran, a Navi Mumbai native and the son of Sandeep and Kiran Jhingran, is a Class 12 student in the Commerce Stream at Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College in Vashi. Under the direction of Coach Gokul Kamath, a Chhatrapati Award winner, he got training at the prestigious Fr. Agnel Sport Centre.

What Anshuman had to say

Anshuman Jhingran thanked Coach Kamath, his team of supporters, and his family for their crucial contributions towards accomplishing this extraordinary feat. He acknowledged by saying, “Yes, in the beginning, it looked very difficult. But thanks to the severe training I had gone through under my Guru, my coach Shri Gokul Kamath & Sal Minty-Gravett (SMG-MBE), I was able to overcome all the challenges. I also want to thank my parents for their unwavering faith in me. And of course, you can’t ever take on such challenges without a dedicated support team, so I am immensely grateful to them.”

Anshuman discusses his ambitious plan to finish the remaining Ocean Seven Swims in the coming year. His incredible accomplishment has earned international notice and appreciation throughout the swimming community, acting as an inspiration and shining example of what can be accomplished through unbreakable commitment, discipline, and resilience.
