However, Brecel won eleven straight frames to take the lead at 16-14 and go on to win the match 17-15.
He competed against four-time champion Mark Selby in the final. Brecel led 6-2 after the first session before seeing his advantage reduced to 9-8 in the second. He went on to win six of the eight frames in the third session to take a 15-10 lead. Selby cut the deficit in half in the final session, winning 16–15, but Brecel ultimately prevailed 18–15 to win the title of world champion.
