“I’m proud of what the team did, happy with the performance but obviously not with the result because we didn’t deserve it. This is football, considering the opponent, this is one of the best matches of the season. We didn’t manage to score and in the first 25 minutes of the second half we deserved more,” Inzaghi said.

Inzaghi also stated that his team will not retaliate in their next Serie A match, instead taking confidence from the fact that they performed well against one of Europe’s best teams. “I don’t think there will be a backlash, this performance must give us great confidence because we played on par with one of the strongest teams in Europe,” the Inter boss said.

Inter were excellent for the majority of the game against Liverpool at San Siro, but conceded two goals in the final 15 minutes. Liverpool’s goals came from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, indicating that Inter is unlikely to qualify.
