All eyes will be on Wednesday’s late kickoff between England and Papua New Guinea to determine who wins group A, kicking off at 7.30 p.m., after Brazil and Canada’s last group match of the competition. Both England and Papua New Guinea have already advanced to the semifinals, but there is still one match left until they take on either the Australian Jillaroos or the Kiwi Ferns. Throughout the group stages, England has been brilliant, with each player rising to the occasion. Leeds players Courtney Winfield-Hill, Georgia Roche, and Fran Goldthorp led their team to an assured 74-4 victory over Brazil in the tournament opener at Headingley; Winfield-Hill notched a triple trick.

Four days later, Craig Richards unveiled the eight players that failed to go through the first round, including Georgia Wilson of Wigan, who scored on home soil. Keara Bennett, one of five Rhinos players in the 19-player team announced on Wednesday, and Zoe Hornby also made their debuts on the international stage. Papua New Guinea has a good record against England; in their most recent meeting, the Orchids won 20-16 at Port Moresby. It is easy to observe how the Orchids team is progressing.

PNG, who narrowly missed the last four in the 2017 World Cup, made a significant advancement by making the semi-finals this year, setting up a potential matchup with the Jillaroos, depending on Wednesday’s outcome. Like England, they haven’t been afraid to score at the World Cup. The PNG line has been spearheaded by Belinda Gwasamun and Martha Molowia in terms of try-scoring, but seasoned players like Elsie Albert have also been destructive in outcomes versus the Canadians and Brazilians.
