World champion Linthoi Chanambam to feature in the National Cadet Judo Championships 2023

One standout judoka who will be participating at the National Cadet Judo Championships 2023 is none other than Linthoi Chanambam, who will represent Manipur in the 63kg event.

The National Cadet Judo Championships 2023 is all set to be staged at the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in Bellary, Vijayanagar, from July 7 to July 9, 2023. This announcement was made on June 28, 2023, by the High Performance Training Centre which will be hosting the event in collaboration with the Judo Federation of India (JFI). The different events will be held at the state-of-the-art combat arena located within the IIS facility.

Instituted in the year 2017, the IIS is renowned for its commitment to sporting excellence and has been known for conducting prestigious national competitions. Having successfully hosted the National Sub Junior and Junior Boxing Nationals in 2022, and the recent Indian Open-Throws and Jumps Competition in March 2023, the IIS is now gearing up to add the National Cadet Judo Championships 2023 to its impressive roster.

Who all will feature at the National Cadet Judo Championships 2023?

The championships are expected to attract 234 male and 228 female highly talented Judokas from various parts of the nation. Besides the judokas, 126 officials from 31 JFI affiliated states will be marking their presence in the championship. One standout judoka who will be participating at the event is none other than Linthoi Chanambam, who will represent Manipur in the 63kg event. Chanambam scripted history for India when she won the gold medal at the World Cadet Judo Championship 2022, becoming the first Indian to ever win a gold across any age group. 

Besides Linthoi Chanambam, Oliviya Devi (44kg), Nungshithoi Chanu (52 kg), Roni Devi (57 kg), Deepapati (70 kg), Yohenba (55 kg), Wangthoi (66 kg), and Suraj Singh (60 Kg), will be a few representatives from Manipur and also a part of the IIS as well. In fact, the competition will feature 11 IIS Judokas who belong to four different states.

Yash Vijayran, who has secured a spot for himself at the upcoming 2023 Asian Games, will proudly represent Delhi in the challenging +100 kg category. Additionally, Ishroop Narang will represent Chandigarh in the +70 kg category, while Kentu Lap will showcase his skills competing for Arunachal Pradesh in the 60 kg weight category.

What the CEO of the IIS said

The CEO of the Inspire Institute of Sport, Rushdee Warley, shared his delight on being able to host the competition and stated, “We are very happy to be hosting the National Cadet Judo Championships at the Inspire Institute of Sport in Bellary. The opportunity to be the home for so many young Judokas from all around the country is a privilege and honor for us. It gives us an opportunity to see some of the best Judokas in action as well as show them the facilities that we have to offer here.”

What the Assistant Secretary of JFI said

Rajan C.S, the Assistant Secretary of the Judo Federation of India, said, “It is the privilege of the Judo Federation of India to hold the National Cadet Judo Championships in association with the Inspire Institute of Sports at Bellary. The JFI appreciates IIS and JSW for taking up this Championship as a long-time partner for the development of Judo in India.”
