Shooting is all set to make a comeback to the Commonwealth Games as the list of events recently released by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) included the sport in the quadrennial event to be held in Victoria, Australia. The list still doesn’t contain the sports like Wrestling and Archery whose inclusion looks uncertain for the 2026 iteration of the competition. However, a new sport which is infamous and played worldwide has been added to the list, i.e. Golf. This implies that Golf will be debuting in Victoria in 2026.

Alongside Golf and Shooting, Basketball, 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball, Coastal Rowing, Para shooting, BMX Racing, Mountain Bike Cross Country, Track Cycling, and Para-track cycling will feature in the next edition of the mega event. Coastal Rowing and BMX Racing are also making their first appearance in the competition.

The CGF President Dame Louise Martin announced, “We are thrilled to confirm the Sports Program for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with the additional sports proposed by Victoria 2026 completing an exciting and diverse line-up.” “The Games are set to be competitive and action-packed, featuring an extensive, fully integrated Para-sport Program, the debuts of Coastal Rowing, Golf, and BMX, the return of Shooting, and the scintillating 3×3 Basketball. The Program is rooted in the CGF’s 2026-30 Strategic Roadmap, which provides hosts with greater flexibility to propose new sports, especially ones with specific local relevance that will enhance cultural showcasing and increase community engagement”, he further added.

Shooting’s inclusion in the program will certainly give a huge boost to the Indians as the country has collected the highest number of medals in the sport, with 135 medals (63 gold, 44 silver, and 28 bronze). However, the third most successful Sport for India, Wrestling has been dropped from the list. India has won 114 medals in Wrestling (49 gold, 39 silver, and 26 bronze). In the last two editions, the Indian wrestlers collected medals in each of the categories of the sport in which they featured.
