Manu Bhaker is one of the best pistol shooters in competitive shooting. Her journey to the top of her sport began at the ISSF World Cup in 2018, where she exhibited her remarkable skills by claiming two coveted gold medals. However, it was at the Commonwealth Games 2018 where Bhaker etched her name in history as she claimed the gold medal in the women’s 10-meter air pistol event. Impressively, she accomplished this remarkable feat at the age of just 16 while making her debut at the Commonwealth Games.

Hailing from the village of Goria in Haryana’s Jhajjar district, Manu Bhaker’s early sporting endeavors included a diverse range of disciplines, including Huyen langlon, boxing, tennis, and skating. Remarkably, she even earned national-level recognition and medals in these multiple sports. Her transition to competitive shooting was made when her father Ram Kishan Bhaker, who serves as a chief engineer in the Merchant Navy, invested ₹150,000.

In 2017, Bhaker continued to make her mark by securing a silver medal at the Asian Junior Championships. However, one of the most important moment of her career came at the National Games 2017 in Kerala, where she astounded the world by securing a staggering nine gold medals. In an exceptional display of skill, Bhaker not only outperformed multiple World Cup medalist Heena Sidhu but also shattered Sidhu’s national record with an astonishing score of 242.3 points in the final, surpassing Sidhu’s previous mark of 240.8.

At the ISSF World Cup 2018 in Guadalajara, Mexico, Manu Bhaker continued to showcase her prowess, securing the gold medal in the Women’s 10-meter air pistol event. Her victory over Mexico’s Alejandra Zavala, a two-time champion, made her the youngest Indian to win a gold medal at the World Cup. Keeping Tokyo Olympics 2020 disappointment aside, Manu Bhaker achieved a significant milestone by winning her first international individual medal since August 2021, when she claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 25m pistol at the ISSF World Cup 2023 Bhopal.

In the Hangzhou Asian Games 2022, Manu Bhaker shot an exceptional 590 to top the qualifications of the women’s 25m pistol event. As a result, she, alongside Esha Singh (586) and Rhythm Sangwan (583), claimed the gold medal in the team event to add to India’s Asian Games tally. However, Manu finished fifth in the final in the individual event, missing out on a medal.
