Joshna Chinappa is one of the exciting and promising prospects when it comes to squash. Chinappa brings to the court both agility and experience. She is considered one of the best squash players in her country along with her companion Dipika Palikal. Joshna comes from a squash-playing family. Her great-granduncle K.M. Cariappa (the first commander-in-chief of the Indian Army of Independent India), grandfather and her father were all squash players. Naturally, it was obvious for her to make this sport her career as well. Joshna started her senior and national career with the championship title in the year 2000. Subsequently, she became the youngest player to hold both titles at the age of 14. Later on, Chinappa scripted history by winning the British Junior Open title in the U17 category when she was 16. Joshna took home her first WISPA Tour title back in 2008 when she took home her first title, NSC Super Satellite. Within a week, she defeated Wern again in the NSC Super Satellite to claim her second tour title. As a result, she reached her highest career PSA World rank of 39 at that time.
Besides this, her main success came in the Commonwealth Games of 2014 held in Glasgow. At Glasgow, she clinched the prized gold medal in the doubles category. Later on, she won the silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games Gold Coast. However, one medal which has evaded her trophy cabinet is the Asian Games gold medal. So far, she has won only the silver medal at these games in the team events. At Incheon and Jakarta, she won the silver medal in the team events. Now, in Hangzhou, she will eye to change the colour to gold.
