Lei Tingjie is a young and spirited Chinese chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster. Tingjie earned the Grandmaster title in 2017 at age 19. This was followed by a silver in the Women’s World Rapid Chess Championship and a gold in the 43rd Sevilla International Chess Open. Moreover, she also secured a spot in the prestigious Women’s Candidates Tournament 2022–23.
Eventually, in April 2023 she was able to win the Women’s Candidates Tournament 2022-23. In the finals, she defeated Tan Zhongyi in the dying embers of the game to take the match. In July 2023, Lei challenged reigning Women’s World Champion Ju Wenjun for the title but lost the match after a loss in game 12.
