Zena Wooldridge, the president of the World Squash Federation (WSF), announced that Chennai will host the revised squash World Cup in 2023, following the signing of a multi-year deal with the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI). The announcement was made during the World Squash Conference and Annual General Meeting which took over three days in the Indian city. The World Cup last took place in 2011 but hasn’t occurred since then. Hence, the organization is planning to revive it. However, the format hasn’t been confirmed as of now but it could be a mixed-gender team event.

What Wooldridge Had to Say About The World Cup

Wooldridge stated, “We are also looking and talking with India about other events, like, about doubles event. Cause they’ve got very good doubles facilities here and so we could be doing some doubles event. We might even include some doubles in the World Cup structure.” She further added that the tournament could be a biennial event which might result in India hosting the tournament again in the year 2025.

“India is both an important territory and valued partner for the World Squash Federation, with a strong track record of supporting the WSF and delivering some memorable world events. After a three-year break in our conference due to Covid, this conference and AGM has been critically important and has been hugely successful in bringing the WSF family back together in person and we are most appreciative of the hospitality and generous support of the SRFI for hosting us in Chennai,” she stated. “We look forward to our renewed collaboration to support a transformation of our sport over the next few years,” she added.
