Team India showed its dominance on Tuesday, October 18 by claiming four gold medals at the ISSF World Championships 2022 Rifle/Pistol which got underway in Cairo, Egypt. The young shooters won all four gold medals against China in the junior categories namely 10m air pistol women’s team, 25-meter rapid fire pistol mixed team, and 10m air rifle men’s and women’s team events respectively.
The Indian women’s junior 10m air rifle team of Tilottama Sen, Nancy, and Ramita thrashed China 16-2 in the final to claim the gold medal at the ISSF The trio were a no-match for the Chinese team as they could only manage to win just a single set in the final. The Indians completely dominated the event as they topped both the qualification stages, securing 941.5 and 627.6 in the first and second qualification rounds respectively.
Earlier in the day, the Indian team of Esha Singh, Shikha Narwal, and Varsha Singh took home the gold medal in the women’s junior 10m air pistol competition. The Indian team claimed the gold medal match 16-6 over China’s Zhao Nan, Wang Siyu, and Shen Yiyao. The three had previously won stage 1 of the qualifiers by scoring 855 (22x) but fell short of the Chinese team (578) in stage 2 with a score of 576 to reach the final.
Divyansh Singh Panwar, Sri Karthik Sabari Raj, and Vidit Jain got the better of China’s Mingshuai Zhu, Linshu Du, and Haohan Lei by 17-11 to win the gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle junior team event. Tokyo Olympian Divyansh led the charge of the men’s team as he shot below 10 just once in the finale.
In the 25-meter rapid-fire pistol Udhayveer Sidhu, Sameer, and Adarsh Singh clinched the bronze medal, defeating Italy 16-2 in the third-place match. The gold medal playoff witnessed a neck-a-neck battle between China and Korea in which the former defeated the latter by 17-15. While, Adarsh Singh and Payal Khatri beat the Chinese pair of Sixuan Feng and Yangpan Liu by 17-9 to finish on top of the podium and win the fourth gold of the day.
