ISSF World Cup 2023 Junior: India announces 39-member squad

India is all set to compete in the upcoming ISSF World Cup Junior 2023 which will be conducted in Suhl, Germany, from June 1 to June 6, 2023.

India is all set to compete in the upcoming ISSF World Cup Junior 2023 which will be conducted in Suhl, Germany, from June 1 to June 6, 2023. The tournament will consist of shooting events in Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun. The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has revealed a 39-member squad for the tournament. Furthermore, the ISSF World Cup Junior tournament in the rifle, pistol, and shotgun events will help these shooters in preparing them for the coming Junior World Championships 2023. The World Championships will take place in Changwon, Korea from July 14 to July 25, 2023.

Who has made it to the Indian junior team?

The team includes Simranjeet Kaur Brar, Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu, Sameer, Abhinav Shaw, Dhanush Srikanth, Shardul Vihan, and Preeti Rajak. The group of youngsters has done quite well in the ISSF and international shooting tournaments for a long time. As a result, they have been chosen to represent the nation. Considering their performances in the previous junior events, they will be aiming to bring laurels to the nation in the junior events. 

Srikanth and Vihan have also competed and won medals in the senior ISSF and other international tournaments for India. In fact, Dhanush competed for India in the 2021 Summer Deaflympics and claimed two gold medals in 10m air rifle and air mixed rifle events. Dhanush also won a team gold alongside Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, and Hriday Hazarika at the 14th Asian Shooting Championship. Besides these athletes, two pairs have been picked for each of the mixed team air rifle, air pistol, and trap events.

India is known for producing world-class shooters

India has produced many elite shooters like Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Vijay Kumar, Rahi Sarnobat, Jaspal Rana, Anjum Moudgil, Saurabh Chaudhary, Manu Bhaker, Apurvi Chandela, and many more. These youngsters will look to bring glory to the nation by winning medals for the country. The nation has recently established a name for itself as one of the shooting powerhouses in the world.

Pistol
