The third edition of the Khelo India Winter Games will be held at Gulmarg, the northern region of Kashmir Valley. The games are set to kick off from February 10 to February 14, 2023. The prominent winter sports competition of the country is expected to draw more than 1500 participants. Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, and Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, unveiled the Khelo India National Winter Games Anthem, Mascot, and Jersey for this edition on February 5, 2023. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, and the Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir are the organizations that are jointly responsible for the conduction of the games.

During the launch event, Union Minister Thakur said, “The launch of Khelo India Winter Games sends a message across the country that J&K is waiting for them to watch these games, providing an unforgettable thrill and experience. He added, “Through the launch of these games here, the youth can be prepared to participate in Olympic Games providing best facilities for them to prepare.” While Liu. Governor, Sinha stated that the PMDP improved the sports infrastructure throughout the entire state of J&K, encouraging young people to participate in sports. “Every panchayat of J&K has sports facilities and target of engaging 50 lakh youth in sports activities has been surpassed. Through new sports policy, attractive career options will be provided to the sportspersons, “he added.

The mascot of the Khelo India Winter Games 2023 is the snow leopard. This represents the rich heritage of the Himalayas. It also emphasizes the administration’s commitment towards their conservation.

Skiing, Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, Snow rugby, Ice stock sport, Snow baseball, Mountaineering, Snowshoe running, Ice hockey, Figure skating and Speed skating.

Khelo India Winter Games 2023: Motto

The purpose is to find grassroots talent and to host a nationwide state-by-state multi-winter sports competition.

Khelo India Winter Games 2023: History

The inaugural edition of the Khelo India Winter Games was split into two legs and took place in Leh and Gulmarg, respectively. The second round took place in Gulmarg. Jammu and Kashmir topped in both previous editions of the Games. They took home 76 medals in the first tournament, including 26 gold medals. The Indian Armed Forces’ Services Sporting Control Board (SSCB), the sports board, bagged second place with 21 medals, including eight gold medals. Jammu and Kashmir earned 11 gold medals out of 34 total medals in 2021. Karnataka came in second with five gold medals overall and nine medals in total.
