The ISSF World Cup 2023 Rio de Janeiro will take place from September 14 to 18, 2023, for rifle and pistol shooters at the Olympic Shooting Centre. This is the final opportunity for rifle and pistol shooters to prove themselves before the World Cup finals set for Doha in late November. The Indian team will be led by Saurabh Chaudhary and Anjum Moudgil, who are among 16 Indians competing in the event.
Saurabh Chaudhary, the young talent who claimed gold in the Youth Olympic Games and the Asian Games 2018, is back on the Indian team and will be competing in the 10m air pistol competition at the ISSF World Cup 2023 Rio. After bagging gold in last year’s senior World Cup in Cairo, he faced some struggles but recently regained form. Chaudhary secured his spot on the team after an impressive performance at the national selection trials in New Delhi a few months ago.
Rahi Sarnobat, who won gold in the women’s 25m pistol team event at the Asian Games 2018, is also making her comeback at the ISSF World Cup 2023 Rio de Janeiro. Tokyo Olympian Elavenil Valarivan will compete in the women’s 10m air rifle. Anjum Moudgil, who missed out a place in the ISSF World Championship 2023 squad, will also be featuring here. Those who were picked for the upcoming Asian Games in China later in September have chosen to skip the Rio event. In terms of past performance, the Indian shooting team claimed four medals in the ISSF World Cup 2023 in Azerbaijan in May and are currently in fourth place in the 2023 medals tally, with a total of 23 medals to their name.
