Fencing is a sport which focuses on swordplay. It comprises three distinct categories: foil, épée, and sabre. Each of these categories utilizes a specialized type of sword that carries the same name as the discipline itself and operates under its own set of regulations. At the Asian Games, Fencing was introduced in the year 1974 in Tehran. However, the sport didn’t take place in 1982.

At the Asian Games 2018, South Korea bagged the best overall nation title, winning a total of 15 medals in Fencing. Out of which, the nation won six gold, three silver, and six bronze medals. China and Japan were the second and third best nations in terms of overall performance, clinching 11 and 8 overall medals respectively. Fencing is scheduled to be held from Sept 24 to Sept 29, 2023, at the Asian Games 2022.
