Golden State Warriors star player Draymond Green said that his team will play the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. Green was speaking after clinching the Western Conference Finals beating the Dallas Mavericks 120-110 and in the process taking the series 4-1. Given that this was a home game for the Warriors, the crowd were going crazy as Green was joined by his teammate Stephen Curry on Inside The NBA along with pundits Shaquille O’Neal, Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith when he gave his prediction.

Draymond was asked by Shaq who he would want to play in the Finals. He was hesitant at first but when further pressed by Shaq, Green said, “I think both teams are tough. Boston causes problems, especially offensively and their defence is incredible. I think we are going to play Boston. That’s who we are going to play.” Shaq pressed on it given the history that both the Celtics and the Warriors have had this season. Earlier in the season, Steph got injured by some reckless play on the part of Marcus Smart and there has been a level of animosity ever since.

Draymond appreciates the moment

After clinching the Western Conference Finals, the Warriors became the first team since the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls to reach the NBA Finals in 6 of 8 seasons. Their coach Steve Kerr also became the first coach in NBA history to reach the Finals in his first six playoff appearances. Draymond was also asked by Shaq how it felt to come back after two years of no playoff basketball. Draymond Green in typical fashion was very realistic about the situation and said that after all that he and his team have been through over the past two years, this moment is what makes him appreciate the little things.

He said, “It’s special. To slide off, you hear all the noise. We understood the position that we were in. We had Klay (Thompson) out but to get back here, it’s just a totally different appreciation of the moment. You go through it five years in a row and you think that’s what it’s supposed to be, you expect to be there. And then you go two years and not even make the playoffs, it’s given me a total different appreciation to be in this position.
