Former NBA ad Boston Celtics player, Paul Pierce is probably one of the all-time greats and bonafide legend. Pierce won the NBA title with the Celtics in 2008 and etched his name into Boston folklore. The forward started in the league in 1998 as the 10th overall pick by Boston and went on to spend 15 years with the franchise. Like Pierce, Jayson Tatum is now the star man for the Celtics and has led them to the NBA Finals this season.

Paul Pierce, who is a good judge of players recently compared his playing style to that of Jayson Tatum and said that he sees a lot of similarities in their game. He said, “He’s very smooth. He has great footwork, and his just basketball IQ is off the charts. You know, he can do it all pretty much offensively and that’s some of the traits that I had. I had no offensive weaknesses. I mean the way he can get to the hole, the way he can knock down to three, the midrange, get to the basket, and I think that’s something he’s improved on in the last couple of years. His ability to get to the basket and finish with contact, that’s the biggest improvement I’ve seen from him.”

Perkins says Jayston Tatum is making history

Elsewhere, Pierce’s former teammate Kendrick Perkins believes that if Jayson Tatum helps the Boston Celtics beat the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, then his performance will go down as one of the greatest performances in the history of the NBA. Tatum scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds and 6 assists in Game 7 when they beat the Miami Heat to progress to the NBA Finals. Tatum also became the first winner of the Larry Bird award. Shedding light on the greatness of Tatum, Perkins said, “Just think about this for a second. He (Tatum) went through Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in the first round. He went through Giannis Antetokounmpo in the second round.

“Jimmy Butler, the number one seed in the Eastern Conference and an elite head coach in Erik Spoelstra and now, he has an opportunity to take down Steph Curry. If he completes the mission, this will go down as one of the greatest individual performances in NBA history.” After winning the Larry Bird award, Tatum honoured his idol, the late Kobe Bryant by wearing a wristband with the iconic number 24, which Kobe would sport.
