Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks will welcome the Cleveland Cavaliers to State Farm Arena for an NBA game on Tuesday. The Atlanta Hawks lost 119-123 in their last game over the Grizzlies. Minutes later, Bane’s 3-pointer gave Memphis a 110-103 advantage. The Hawks made one final push, cutting the Grizzlies’ lead to 122-119 on De’Andre Hunter’s 3-pointer. After a free throw by Tyus Jones extended the lead to four points, Atlanta called a timeout with 11.6 seconds remaining.

Trae Young, who led Atlanta with 28 points, missed a short jumper before Bogdan Bogdanovic’s 3 from the corner also was no good. Young added 10 assists one day after he was ejected for throwing the ball at an official during the Hawks’ 143-130 win over Indiana on Saturday. “If one or two more shots go in, it’s a different story,” Young said, noting the Grizzlies made 13 3-pointerss, compared to only seven for the Hawks. “They hit six more 3s than us and only won by four.”

Jackson continued to thrive as a shot blocker against Atlanta. Jackson set a career high with eight blocks in the Grizzlies’ 128-103 home win over the Hawks on Dec. 12. He added five blocks on Sunday, all in the first half. Jackson was called for a foul on a block that knocked John Collins to the floor with six seconds remaining in the first half. Jackson and Jenkins were called for technical fouls for arguing the call against Jackson, and a review confirmed it was a clean block.

Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers on the other hand won 108-91 against the Rockets in their last game. The Houston Rockets dropped their fifth consecutive game in a 108-91 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday night inside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Here are three takeaways as the Rockets remain winless on their five-game road trip. It has been hard at times for the Rockets to generate points. And against the league’s best defensive team in the Cavaliers, Houston struggled to score.

The Rockets could not rely on their paint presence due to Jarrett Allen’s and Evan Mobley’s rim protection. The duo recorded a combined six block shots, which limited Houston to 44 points in the paint. And due to their inability to shoot from the outside, the Rockets could not rely on their subpar 3-point shooting. The Rockets finished the game with six made triples out of 25 attempts — Jalen Green accounted for five.

“They are just a really good, well-coached defensive team,” coach Stephen Silas said. “They protect the paint. And they have length. Against a defensive team like this that is No. 1, you have to get out in transition and be intentional about what you are trying to get on the offensive end.”
