The Atlanta Hawks will welcome the New York Knicks to State Farm Arena for an NBA game on Friday. The Hawks won 122-130 in their last game over the Mavericks. Trae Young’s latest matchup against Luka Doncic was his first with Dejounte Murray. Atlanta’s backcourt mates kept their winning streak alive against the MVP candidate. Murray scored 30 points, Young had 18 points and 12 assists and the Hawks beat the Dallas Mavericks 130-122 on Wednesday night.
John Collins added 19 points as Atlanta won a season-best fourth consecutive game to get back over .500 at 23-22. Doncic scored 30 points but had just three in the fourth quarter and fell to 4-3 in head-to-head meetings with Young. They were traded for each other as top-five picks on draft night in 2018, Doncic going third overall and Young fifth. Murray and Collins combined to go 7 of 11 from 3-point range as the Hawks shot 57% from deep and 50% overall.
The Knicks on the other hand lost 105-116 against the Wizards in their last game. Jalen Brunson scored 32 points and RJ Barrett 21 had for the Knicks, who have lost two straight home games to teams behind them in the standings this week after a stretch of seven wins in eight games. Immanuel Quickley added 18 points and Julius Randle had 14 points and 15 rebounds.
“They had guys coming back into the lineup tonight, so they were amped up to play and they played great,” Barrett said. Starting center Mitchell Robinson played just nine minutes before leaving with a sprained right thumb. “You miss who he is obviously, but that’s part of it,” coach Tom Thibodeau said. “But overall we didn’t play well.”
