The FIA World Touring Car Cup, abbreviated to WTCR, is an international touring car championship promoted by Eurosport Events and sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). It has had different incarnations of a World Touring Car Cup held between 1993 and 1995. Following the 2017 season, an agreement was reached for the World Touring Car Championship to become WTCR and use the TCR technical regulations. With titles for drivers and teams only, the WTCR series changed to ‘World Cup’ rather than ‘World Championship’ status in 2018.
MotorLand Aragón near Alcañiz in the northeast of the country, was a popular addition to the WTCR schedule when it hosted the inaugural WTCR Race of Spain in 2020. Despite huge enthusiasm for the city-based Circuito Guadalope from 1965, growing safety requirements and difficulties staging top-level events meant time was called on racing through the streets in 2003, which led to the MotorLand Aragón project. Former F1 driver Pedro de la Rosa collaborated with circuit designer Hermann Tilke on the track layout, which was inaugurated in September 2009 and has staged the Gran Premio de Aragón de MotoGP since 2010.
The FIA World Touring Car Cup Aragon starts on Saturday with one free practice and three qualifying events. The FP1 starts at 12:30 pm and the first qualifying session starts at 19:00 pm. The final day of the weekend starts with Race 1 at 12:45 pm and Race 2 starts at 18:45 pm.
