The World Rally Championship (abbreviated as WRC) is the highest level of global competition in the motorsport discipline of rallying, owned and governed by the FIA. There are separate championships for drivers, co-drivers, manufacturers and teams. The series currently consists of 12 three to four-day rally events driven on surfaces ranging from gravel and tarmac to snow and ice. Each rally is usually split into 15–25 special stages which are run against the clock on up to 350 kilometers of closed roads.
FORUM8 Rally Japan, the home of championship-winning manufacturer Toyota, will host the final round of the 2022 FIA World Rally Championship, twelve years after it last appeared on the WRC schedule. The World Rally Championship has not visited Japan since 2010, and even then, the event was held in a completely different gravel format. This year, we’re on asphalt, with new stages, a new base, and the always-spectacular Rally1 cars. Takamoto Katsuta of Toyota Gazoo Racing will be making a triumphant return to the Nagoya region, where the rally will be held. Thousands of fans are expected to turn out to support the hometown hero. It will also be a homecoming for the entire Toyota team.
