Chris Wade is a 35-year-old veteran. He has a shot at redemption as he replaces 2021 PFL champion Movlid Khaybulaev in a semifinal matchup against Gabriel Braga in the upcoming PFL welterweight playoffs. This news marks Wade’s fifth time advancing to the PFL playoffs. All in pursuit of the promotion’s lucrative $1 million grand prize. After previously falling short in the 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022 seasons.

In an exciting announcement on his Instagram. Wade shared, “What’s up everybody? I’ve got breaking news. We are back, back for a fifth consecutive semifinal in the PFL $1 million tournament. I’m going to be taking on Gabriel Braga on August 4, in San Antonio, Texas. I’m so amped, you have no idea. I’ve been training my ass off, and destiny is a powerful thing.

During the 2023 PFL welterweight regular season Wade finished in fifth place. He had a mixed performance losing a unanimous decision to the No. 1 seed Bubba Jenkins but making a strong comeback with a first-round stoppage of Ryoji Kudo.

However, Wade’s prior experience in the semifinals hasn’t been as successful. He has lost three out of four semifinal appearances under the PFL umbrella. The only exception was in 2021 when he secured a semifinal win against Jenkins. This allowed him to advance to the tournament finals. Unfortunately, he lost to Khaybulaev in the finals missing out on the $1 million prize.

Gabriel Braga (11-0) displayed an impressive performance in the 2023 regular season. He secured victories over the bracket’s No. 4 seed Jesus Pinedo and former UFC title challenger Marlon Moraes. His excellent record earned him the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. The PFL featherweight semifinals will take place alongside the light heavyweight semifinals on August 4 at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas.

Now with his fifth shot at the PFL playoffs. Chris Wade is determined to seize the opportunity and finally claim the coveted $1 million prize.
