Oakland Athletics vs Chicago White Sox will take place at Oakland Collesium in another round of MLB action. The Philadelphia Phillies came home from a disappointing trip going just 1-5, 50-36. Philadelphia’s lead in the wild card race is two games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers. Next for the Phillies is the Marlins, who will face him in six of his next nine games. Both teams limping into the series. Philadelphia is on his 3rd straight loss and Miami on his 7th straight loss. The Phillies relied on Aaron Nora to stop the skid, while Miami countered with Jesús Luzaldo. I’ll dive into the numbers and share my predictions for where the value lies in this matchup.
Baseball in the final month can always be tough when the September call-up is in play and teams are playing the chords in a losing season. Considering what we’ve seen about the Marlins lately, it’s very likely that the Marlins are theirs. In the Marlins’ last eight games, he has only conceded two goals in any competition. They also haven’t scored 3 or more points in any of their last seven games against the Phillies. Additionally, Miami was shut out in two of those games, in which he scored only one run in three. The Phillies won those matchups, he went 6-1. It’s hard to get too excited about Marlin for the rest of the way, and their starting pitcher probably deserves a little more considering his ERA is 3.75 and he’s ninth overall. When Cy Young’s favorite Sandy Alcantara started, it was as if the Marlins had gone on the offense.

Lefty Luzaldo is already one of the better pitchers in the Marlins rotation. His advanced numbers suggest further positive regression given his 3.02 FIP and 3.04 xERA. His two-game run against the Phillies with the Marlins on his 2-0 and Luzaldo notable. And in his 25 at-bats with Luzard, the Philadelphia lineup has topped. Considering Nola spent her entire career in Philadelphia, Nola’s sample size against the Marlins is more than adequate. He’s certainly considered a top-tier pitcher, given his career record of 76-60 and a 3.64 ERA, but the Action Labs database shows that the Phillies have his 17.98 units. He is 99-98 in the starting line-up with just a loss. The Phillies also went 8-11 against the Marlins and started 5.25.
