Barcelona are determined to sign Leeds United forward Raphinha this summer. The 25-year-old forward has been in superb form this season and he is expected to leave the Premier League relegation battlers this summer. Leeds were desperate to keep the highly rated Brazilian and offered him a new package that would have doubled his wages. However, Raphinha snubbed the contract extension and is now allegedly in negotiations with Barcelona.

According to SPORT, a catalan newspaper, Raphinha has agreed financial terms on a five-year deal at Camp Nou. They state Barca head coach Xavi has made it his personal mission to bring the Brazilian to Nou Camp and complete a new-look attack. Raphinha is expected to replace Ousmane Dembele in Barcelona. The forward is approaching free agent status and looks likely to leave on a free.

Furthermore, SPORT also claims Raphinha is very much interested in joining the Blaugrana. They state he has already agreed personal terms with his agent Deco, the former Barcelona player, also working as a South American scout for the club.

In addition, they state Barca have already submitted a EUR 35 million offer to Leeds for Raphinha. But the Premier League club are yet to respond, instead they are focusing on their quest to stay in the Premier League. Raphinha is under contract at Leeds until the end of 2023-24 season.

The winger is capable of playing at both the flanks but usually prefers to play at the right wing. He is a tactically disciplined player who is capable of pressing higher up the pitch. He has scored 15 goals and set up 12 more in 57 games for Leeds since joining from Rennes for EUR 20 million in 2020.

His progression has been impressive under Marcelo Bielsa and has also received international recognition with Brazil, with a spot in the squad at the World Cup later this year likely. If the move is completed, it could be a stepping stone in Raphinha’s career.

Getting an opportunity to play under Xavi is something he wouldn’t want to miss. Under the Spanish tactician, the Blaugrana have been in stunning form, having won their last five league games, that includes a 4-0 thrashing of league leaders Real Madrid in the El Clasico on Sunday, and moving to third spot in the points table.
