Barcelona are interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic on a free transfer this summer transfer window according to a report by Mundo Deportivo. The Serie A club is keen for the Croatian to renew his contract but it’s proving difficult to close negotiations. He could leave for free. Barcelona have apparently offered the 29-year-old a five-year contract on a rate of EUR 8 million per season. The Nerazzurri, by contrast, are offering him EUR 4 million per season for the next four years.

Brozovic has been reportedly garnering a lot of interest from top clubs across Europe, apart from Barcelona, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also showing interest in the midfielder.

Barcelona are looking for a replacement for club captain Sergio Busquets, who is entering the final phase of his career. Although the Spanish midfielder has been very impressive under new boss Xavi, the La Liga side do not have a proper backup for the veteran defensive midfielder, whose game-time will need to be managed going forward.

Other than Barca, Manchester United are also on the lookout for a holding midfielder. Since Fred and Scott McTominay haven’t been performing at their best on a consistent basis and Nemanja Matic has become more of a part-timer, the Red Devils are looking for reinforcement in that position.

Although Declan Rice is the priority for United, he could be an expensive option and he is believed to favor a move to Chelsea. Therefore Manchester United are keeping their options open.

Brozovic joined Inter Milan from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015. He has played 272 matches for the Italian club, scoring 26 goals and registering 35 assists. He was a pivotal part of the Inter team that won the Serie A title last season and he has made 70 appearances for the Croatian national team.
