Pro Kabaddi League: UP Yoddha aim to bounce back against Dabang Delhi

UP Yoddha, the GMR Group Owned PKL Franchise, will take the mat on Saturday with the hope to return to winning ways in their next fixture against league toppers, Dabang Delhi K.C in the Pro Kabaddi League. The game will be held behind closed doors at Sheraton Grand, Whitefield Convention Centre and Hotel, Bengaluru on 08th January. UP Yoddha currently stands 9th in the points table with 14 points to their kitty whereas Dabang Delhi are at the top of the points tally with 26 points. The Match will be broadcast LIVE on the Star Sports Network & Hotstar, 7:30 PM onwards.

For the Yoddha’s, Surender Gill along with star raider Pardeep Narwal have been in top form while Nitesh and Sumit have handled the defense for the team immaculately. The franchise representing the state of Uttar Pradesh, will walk into the game with statistical advantage as the Yoddha’s have managed to dominate the rivalry in all their past meetings. 

UP Yoddha has faced Dabang Delhi five times so far in their PKL journey, with the former walking away with the winning honors four times while the latter managed a win just once. For UP Yoddha, Surender Gill with 46 raid points and 2 super raids will be the player to watch out for as he will match up against Dabang Delhi’s Naveen Kumar who has been the best raider of the season so far with a massive 108 raid points to his name.

Jasveer Singh on facing Dabang Delhi

Ahead of the match, Jasveer Singh, Head Coach, UP Yoddha said, “Sometimes results do not justify the form, and that’s how sport is. Our results from the last game, were not as expected but I am very happy with the boys. The way they fought back to change the game in the second half is a great testimony to their determination and quality. I am confident that we as a team will put forward every skill up our sleeve to return to our winning ways against Dabang Delhi.”

Earlier, UP Yoddha lost to Tamil Thalaivas in their 6th match of the PKL 8 at Grand Whitefield Bengaluru. UP Yoddha gave away crucial points in the first half as the Thalaivas raced ahead and led 10-21. However, UP Yoddha tried to make a comeback in the second by inflicting two back to back super tackles followed by a multi-point raid by Surender Gill which earned them 6 points in the first 3 minutes. 

UP Yoddha fought back but couldn’t reduce the deficit as the match ended 33-39 in favour of the Thalaivas. Surender Gill was the star player for UP Yoddha securing almost 50% of the points as he led the scoring chart with 14 points and got his 2nd Super 10 in the PKL.
