Prithvi Shaw has reportedly failed the Yo-Yo Test but that has not ruled him out for IPL 2022 for Delhi Capitals.

Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Gujarat Titans, is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) undergoing rehabilitation. However, if reports are to be believed, Hardik Pandya has been bowling and has passed the Yo-Yo Test with flying colors. The BCCI is checking on the fitness of all the centrally contracted players. Not just Hardik Pandya, even Prithvi Shaw was taking the Yo-Yo Test but he has reportedly failed the Test.
According to a PTI report, a BCCI source stated, “Let’s make it clear. Fitness test clearance is only for those who are coming back from injury. In the case of Hardik, it was about getting a general fitness assessment going into the grueling IPL season. He is an asset and one needed to check his current fitness standards.”
If Hardik Pandya passed the Test, then Prithvi Shaw has failed the Yo-Yo Test. Shaw is not a centrally contracted player but he had to provide a fitness update. His results were not satisfactory. According to the BCCI guidelines, the Yo-Yo Test score that is needed to pass the Test is 16.5 in men. It has been reported that Prithvi Shaw scored less than 15.

Does that mean that Prithvi Shaw will not play IPL 2022? The BCCI official stated, “These are just fitness updates. Obviously, it doesn’t stop Prithvi from playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL. It’s just a fitness parameter and not the be-all and end-all.” Although Prithvi Shaw might be eligible for the IPL 2022, this latest result is not good news for his chances in the Indian cricket team. Shaw’s lack of fitness in the last couple of years has seen him not been selected in the Indian cricket team.
Recently, a question was posed to Hardik Pandya on whether he would be able to bowl in IPL 2022. Pandya casually replied that it would be a surprise. Pandya is currently the captain of the Gujarat Titans. He ended his near-decade long association with the Mumbai Indians after he was not retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Along with Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill were also included in the Gujarat Titans squad.
Pandya has struggled for fitness in the last three-four years. After sustaining a back injury in the 2018 Asia Cup, Pandya has not been able to bowl on a regular basis. This has seen him come in and out of the Indian cricket team. With other all-rounders emerging, Hardik Pandya will have to put in a good performance in the IPL 2022 to come back into reckoning.
