Royal Challengers Bangalore continued their trophy drought after losing to Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Saturday. RCB loyal fans were tested once again as their team reached the playoffs but failed to book a ticket to the IPL 2022 final. The major highlight of the tournament was that a change in captaincy from Virat Kohli to Faf du Plessis also did not help them change their fortunes.

However, one young fan was starstruck as New Zealand pace ace Trent Boult offered him his Rajasthan Royals jersey while walking back to the dressing room. The fan reacted to the gesture instantly as he swiped his RCB jersey with the shirt gifted from Boult who picked up the key wicket of Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell during the match. Rajasthan Royals later shared a video of the same and captioned it, “How can you not love Trent Boult? Watch him make a young fan’s day after #RRvRCB.”

IPL 2022: How Royal Challengers Bangalore lost the match

RCB qualified to the IPL 2022 playoffs with eight wins and six losses which helped them accumulate 16 points to book the fourth spot ahead of Delhi Capitals who were knocked out of the tournament after their loss to Mumbai Indians in their last league match. The Du Plessis-led side then got the better of Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator to qualify for the IPL 2022 Qualifier 2.

Virat Kohli looked out of touch once again with the bat for RCB as he was sent packing for seven runs. However, captain Faf du Plessis (25), Rajat Patidar (58) and Glenn Maxwell (24), played resilient knocks with RR fast bowlers Prasidh Krishna and Obed McCoy picking up three wickets each to restrict RCB to a chasable total of 157/8. In response, the in-form RR opener Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 103 off 60 deliveries to guide his side over the line with 11 balls to spare.
