IPL 2022 RR vs RCB: Dinesh Karthik, Shahbaz Ahmed guide Royal Challengers Bangalore to four-wicket victory

Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed notched up brilliant late cameos to help RCB sail over the line against RR in the IPL 2022 contest on Tuesday.

Dinesh Karthik (44 not out) and Shahbaz Ahmed (45) played brilliant late cameos to help RCB chase down the target of 170 runs in 19.1 overs with four wickets in hand against RR in the IPL 2022 contest at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday. 

Chasing the target, RCB openers Faf du Plessis (29) and Anuj Rawat (26), forged a 55-run stand before the latter was sent packing to set the tone of the match. 

However, Virat Kohli (5), David Willey (0) and Sherfane Rutherford (5), failed to show much resilience with the bat.

Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed rescue RCB

At a stage, RCB were reeling at 87/5, but Karthik and Ahmed forged a sixth-wicket stand of 67 runs for the sixth wicket to change the tide of the match in their direction. 

Ahmed smashed four boundaries and three sixes in his 26-ball stay while the veteran wicket keeper-batter hit seven boundaries and one hit over the top in his match-winning knock of 23 deliveries.

For, the Rajasthan franchise, Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up two wickets each. 

Jos Buttler took time to settle in

Jos Buttler (70 not out) notched up his second consecutive half-century in IPL 2022 to guide RR to 169/3. 
Asked to bat, Buttler took his time to read the pitch and settle in, as he scored a little over a run-a-ball before opening up a late surge. He, however, lost his young opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal (4) early. 

However, Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal (37), forged a partnership of 70-run for the second wicket to keep their side in a hunt for a big total. Padikkal hit two boundaries and as many sixes in his 29-ball knock. 

Jos Buttler and Shimron Hetymer open late surge

Later, Buttler, was well complimented by his West Indies’ partner Shimron Hetmyer (42 not out) who took charge of the innings after RR captain Sanju Samson was sent packing for eight runs. 

Buttler, who made the most of the death overs, smashed six sixes in his unbeaten knock while Hetmyer hit four boundaries and two sixes. 

RCB struggle for breakthroughs 

RCB leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga (1/32) and Harshal Patel (1/18) kept the RR batters in check with their variations but failed to find wickets at regular intervals of time. 

England medium-pacer David Willey also chipped in with a scalp.
