Arshdeep Singh has looked like one of the much-improved fast bowlers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He has almost looked nerveless with his economical display at the death which has made him a regular in the Punjab Kings’ line-up and his captain Mayank Agarwal’s delight. But Arshdeep’s is not an overnight story. He had laid the foundation to bring out the best in him as early as 2017 while striking a conversation with his father.

Arshdeep Singh believes Mayank Agarwal has brought a ‘calming effect’ in him

The Punjab Kings youngster has credited his captain for bringing a calming effect on him on the field. Arshdeep said that Mayank makes it a point to speak to him and understand about the field placements that he would like to have before every delivery which has helped him to repay the faith shown in him. He, however, mentioned that it is a team game and he wants them to be benefitted from his performance in the long run.

“Mostly, Mayank Bhai comes to me before every ball to ask if everything is fine or if the field needs to be changed,” Arshdeep Singh said in an interview to Punjab Kings. “So, I usually talk to him and I feel calm because of that. Personally I’m happy, but as I had said earlier that it’s a team game, If my performance helps the team win, it will be more beneficial for both me and the team as well.”

‘Arshdeep Singh has been a leader of the Punjab Kings squad’

The hard-work continues to pay dividends for Arshdeep in the IPL 2022. So much so, that he was seen giving tips to premier South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada. And Agarwal had said that the youngster has leadership qualities in him and is taking charge of the pace department not only due to his brilliant display in the death overs but also due to his capability to come forward and guide the team in tricky situations.

“I think he has been brilliant, nothing short of brilliant. Every time we have been in tricky situation, he has put his hand up and he has executed it. He has been exceptional and he has been a leader in the team. It’s fantastic for him and us that he comes out and executes as he does,” Mayank said in the post-match presentation.
