Odean Smith (25 not out) and Shah Rukh Khan (24 not out) played brilliant cameo knock to snatch a win from the jaws of defeat as they guided PBKS to a mammoth 208/5 against RCB in the IPL 2022 match at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Sunday. Chasing a stiff target of 206 runs, PBKS openers Mayank Agarwal (32) and Shikhar Dhawan (43), forged a 71-run stand to set the tone of the match before the former was sent packing.

Agarwal slammed two boundaries and as many sixes in his 24-ball knock while the southpaw smashed five fours and one six in his stay of 29 deliveries.

Later, incoming batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa (43), added to the tempo of the chase with a quick-fire knock off 22 deliveries which was laced with two boundaries and four sixes.

England top-order batter Liam Livingstone, then, contributed 19 runs to the tally of the team. However, Raj Bawa (0), failed to open his account on his IPL debut.

Shah Rukh Khan-Odean Smith fire PBKS to victory

Khan and Smith forged a crucial stand of an unbeaten 52 runs for the sixth wicket to take the match away from RCB. The West Indies all-rounder got lucky early as he was dropped by Anuj Rawat but he made the most of his chance.

Khan hit one boundary and two sixes in his unbeaten stay of 20 deliveries while Smith smashed three sixes and one four in his terrific cameo of eight balls to help PBKS cross the line.

RCB bowling woes highlighted

One of the major worries highlighted for the Faf du Plessis-led side was their bowling attack as they leaked 22 runs in extras which included 21 wide balls and one no-ball.

India and RCB fast bowler Mohammed Siraj picked up two wickets but he leaked 14 runs per over. Akash Deep, Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga, meanwhile, chipped in with a wicket each.

Faf du Plessis-Virat Kohli made merry of PBKS bowlers

Earlier, du Plessis (88) and former skipper Virat Kohli (41 not out) led RCB to a mammoth total of 205/2.

Asked to bat, du Plessis and Anuj Rawat (21), forged an opening stand of 50 runs before the latter was sent packing.

However, unperturbed by the dismissal, the former South Africa captain continued to pile on misery on the PBKS bowlers as he brought up his half-century in 38 deliveries and was well complimented by Kohli from the other end.

Du Plessis, who was the aggressor of the 118-run second wicket stand with Kohli, notched up three boundaries and seven hits over the fence in his masterful innings of 57 deliveries.

Kohli, meanwhile, played the role of a perfect second fiddle as he took a backseat and allowed the South African to take charge of the innings. The former India and RCB captain hit one boundary and two sixes in his 29-ball unbeaten knock.

Later, veteran wicket keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik (32 not out), played a quick fire knock off 14 deliveries to guide RCB past 200 runs in the IPL 2022. RCB, thus, became the first franchise in IPL 2022 to score over 200 runs.

Arshdeep Singh and Rahul Chahar picked up a wicket each for PBKS.
