David Miller (94 not out) and Rashid Khan (40) combined well for GT to chase down the target of 170 runs in 19.5 overs and help their side clinch a three-wicket victory over CSK in the IPL 2022 clash at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Sunday.

In the chase, table-topper GT made a forgettable start, as they lost their top-order batters — Wriddhiman Saha (11), Shubman Gill (0), Vijay Shankar (0) and Abhinav Manohar (12) — like pack of cards to leave their side reeling at 48/4.

David Miller-Rashid Khan rescue Gujarat Titans’ ship

Miller, however, changed the tempo of the match with his aggressive intent but failed to find support in Rahul Tewatia (6) as he was sent packing early.

Gujarat Titans, later, returned to the match with a solid performance from Khan who forged a 70-run stand with Miller for the sixth wicket to turn the tide in their team’s favour. The Afghanistan all-rounder hit two boundaries and three hits over the fence, which included some innovative shots, in his 21-ball cameo.

But Miller continued to hold the fort for the Ahmedabad franchise as he hit eight boundaries and six sixes in his unbeaten knock of 51 deliveries which helped their side sail over the line.

Dwayne Bravo stars with the ball for CSK

Veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was the pick of the bowlers for CSK as he returned figures of 3/23 while Sri Lanka mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana picked up two wickets for 24 runs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad plays a brilliant cameo

Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad (73) and Ambati Rayudu (46) notched up brilliant individual knocks to help CSK score 169/5.

Asked to bat, CSK lost Robin Uthappa (3) cheaply. But his opening partner Gaikwad went about his innings cautiously.

Gaikwad, however, failed to find support in the incoming batter and the England all-rounder Moeen Ali (1) as he could not add much to the team total.

But Ambati Rayudu (46) played the role of a perfect second fiddle to Gaikwad in his 31-ball stay which included four boundaries and two hits over the fence. The duo were involved in a 92-run stand for the third wicket which set the tone for the CSK innings. Gaikwad, later, lost his wicket after a 48-ball stay which included five boundaries and as many sixes to the fence.

Later, Shivam Dube (19) and Ravindra Jadeja (22 not out), chipped in with important cameo knocks to guide CSK to a challenging total.

Alzarri Joseph shines with the ball

West Indies’ Alzarri Joseph was the pick of the bowlers for GT as he returned figures of 2/34 while Mohammed Shami and Yash Dayal scalped a wicket each.
