Gurbaz becomes the third player from Afghanistan to join the Gujarat Titans, replacing Jason Roy

Gujarat Titans have signed up Afghanistani batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz to be the replacement for the injured Jason Roy. Jason Roy had withdrawn from Tata IPL 2022 citing personal reasons, in a big blow to the fledgling franchise.
The hard-hitting young wicketkeeper-batsman may neither be a like-to-like replacement both in terms of position and also in terms of pedigree.
Gurbaz becomes the third player from Afghanistan to join the Ahmedabad-based franchise, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad being the other two players.
The 20 year old Rahmannullah Gurbaz is being touted as one of the future stars for Afghanistan. He came through the ranks having represented Afghanistan in the under 19 world cup. Inducted in the senior team he became the first batter from his country to score a century on debut in ODIs.
The Gujarat Titans have two wicketkeepers in their team, Wriddhiman Saha and Mathew Wade. With Wade being unavailable till April 6 and the controversy surrounding Saha, Gurbaz may also be seen as filling in for the Saha in case the need arises.

We wish Jason well and look forward to his return to the field. Rahmanullah Gurbaz is one of the promising young batters to emerge from Afghanistan and we believe he is an ideal replacement for Jason. Gurbaz is an attacking batter and fits into our plans for the Gujarat Titans. He has given a good account of his talent in international cricket and a few tournaments around the globe.”
