American International will take on the Air Force Falcons in the NCAA USA on November 20 at Massmutual Center, Springfield. On Saturday, November 19, in an Atlantic Hockey Association match at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, Air Force overcame a two-goal hole to draw AIC 3-3 in overtime. The sixth-round shootout was won by AIC, giving them an additional point in the standings. At 8:33 in the first session, an Air Force error led to the opening goal for AIC (6-6-3, 4-5-1 AHA). Alexander Malinowski deflected Julius Janhonen’s cross from the sidelines into the slot to give his team a 1-0 lead. AIC defenseman Brian Kramer next took a shot from the center point in the final minute, and Brett Rylance deflected it with 53 seconds remaining in the frame.
AIC was outshot 11-0 in the opening 13 minutes of the second period by Air Force (6-5-2, 2-2-1 AHA). At 13:15, the Falcons used the rushing play to slash the AIC advantage in half as Clayton Cosentino set up Nate Horn on the left side. Horn’s wrister slipped inside the top corner of the net on the play, cutting the AIC advantage to 2-1 with Parker Brown’s help. The Falcon penalty killers completed their task following a significant penalty against Air Force. In order to defeat the nation’s fifth-best power-play squad, Air Force killed a major, and Guy Blessing made five stops. The Falcons knotted the score early in the third quarter while on the power play. With 0.0 seconds remaining in the power play, the Falcons tied the game following a penalty called on Mitchell Digby. Will Gavin was fed in the right circle by Andrew DeCarlo. Luke Rowe scored his fourth goal of the year at 8:13 after Gavin successfully threaded the needle in the slot. At 12:40, Malinowski scored his second goal of the contest on a rebound in front to give AIC the lead once more.
