Hockey India announced a 20-member Indian women’s hockey team for the five-match series against Australia that has begun in Adelaide from May 18 and will run until May 27, 2023. Savita Punia, the seasoned goalkeeper, will serve as the captain, and Deep Grace Ekka will act as Punia’s deputy. The team will use this trip to hone their skills as the event serves as a preparatory tournament ahead of the Asian Games which will take place from September to October 2023 in Hangzhou. On May 18, India faced Australia whose result went in the favor of the host by 4-2. Sangita Kumari and Sharmila Devi were the goal scorers for India.
After a defeat in their first game against Australia, the women in Blue will try to produce a sensational performance as they take place on the Aussies on May 20 and May 21, respectively. While, on May 25 and 27, the Indian team will also face Australia “A.”. At Adelaide’s Mate Stadium, all five games will be held. The Indian women’s hockey team is currently ranked eighth, while the Australian team is ranked third in the world. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, India defeated three-time Olympic champions Australia 1-0 in the quarterfinals. The two teams also competed in the Birmingham semifinals of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which Australia won following a shootout.

The Asian Games 2023 is taking place in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, and will feature multiple sports. After Beijing (1990) and Guangzhou (2010), Hangzhou will be the third Chinese city to host the Asian Games. Due to worries about a COVID-19 pandemic in China and the potential threat of new COVID-19 variants, the event, which was originally scheduled to take place from September 10 to 25, 2022, was announced to be postponed to the year 2023. On July 19, 2022, it was revealed that the new dates would be from September 23, 2023, to October 8, 2023. The Games will take place in 44 venues, including 14 brand-new buildings and 30 existing ones. The majority of the venues will be in Hangzhou and its neighborhoods, while other events will take place in Deqing, Jinhua, Ningbo, Shaoxing, and Wenzhou.
