India has won two games in a row. With two straight victories, six points, and a five goal differential, they are leading Pool C.
In their third match of the first-ever Women’s FIH Hockey5s World Cup in 2024, India will square off against Namibia on Thursday, January 25, in Muscat, Oman. Riding high on two back-to-back victories, the Indian team is currently leading Pool C with a total of six points and a positive goal difference of five.
They kicked off the tournament with a close 5-4 win against Poland, then dominated the USA with an impressive 7-3 scoreline. Scorers for India’s team, donned in blue, include Deepika Soreng with four goals, Khan Mumtaz with three, Kujur Mariana with three, Kujur Ajmina with one, and Choudhary Mahima also with one.
On the other hand, Namibia hasn’t had the best start, sitting at the bottom of the pool with two losses. They opened with a tough 6-1 loss to the USA and then suffered a 5-1 defeat by Poland. Hockey5s is a quick-paced version of traditional field hockey, featuring five players a side, including the goalie. Matches last for just 20 minutes, split into two 10-minute halves.
In their last game, the Indian women’s team wowed fans with a significant 7-3 win over the USA. Goals came from Mahima Choudhary, Mariana Kujur, Deepika Soreng, Mumtaz Khan, and Ajmina Kujur. The USA’s Jacqueline Sumfest and Captain Linnea Gonzales managed to score as well.
Earlier in the day, India secured a victory over Poland with a score of 5-4 in a Pool C match. Next up for India is Namibia, with the game starting at 2:30 PM today. In Hockey5s, four field players and one goalkeeper play on each team.
India shares Pool C with the USA, Poland, and Namibia. The other pools consist of the Netherlands, Malaysia, Fiji, and Oman in Pool A; Australia, South Africa, Ukraine, and Zambia in Pool B; and Group D contains New Zealand, Uruguay, Thailand, and Paraguay.
India will take on Nambia on 25th January in Hockey Oman Venue, Al Amarat 119, Oman in pool C. This is the 23rd match for Women’s FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2024.
