For the Indian national field hockey team, defender Harmanpreet Singh represents India. He played on the Indian hockey team that captured the bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. In April 2015, Harmanpreet Singh received his first senior team call-up when he was chosen for the three-match bilateral series against Japan. Against the Japanese team, he scored his first goal for the national team, assisting his team to a 2-1 victory. The following game, which his team won 3-1 against Canada, he scored one goal. In the competition, he managed just two goals. In the championship game, his team was humiliated 4-0 by Australia.
In the 2015 Hockey India League, Dabang Mumbai paid $51000 for the young drag-flicker, who had five goals in his debut. He later went on to win the 2015 Ponty Chadha Award given to the tournament’s most promising player. He was kept by Mumbai Dabangs for the 2016 competition. He only managed to score two goals all season, but his strong defensive play helped keep him on the team. He had six goals in the 2017 season. He was named the tournament’s Upcoming Player of the Year.
