Salima Tete receives the AHF Emerging Player of the Year Award in 2022

Salima Tete of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team received the AHF Emerging Player of the Year Award for her incredible performance in 2022 at the Asian Hockey Federation’s Annual General Meeting in Korea on March 23, 2023. Salima, who is only 20 years old, thanked the Asian Hockey Federation for recognising the effort she and her team had put up over the years. She also expressed her gratitude to her coaches and teammates for their everlasting support and inspiration. Salima’s efforts at recent competitions, such as the FIH Women’s Hockey Pro League 2021/22 and the Commonwealth Games 2022, assisted the Indian team in earning the third and bronze medals, respectively. Moreover, Salima Tete competed for India’s senior women’s hockey team, which placed fourth in the Tokyo Olympics.

Salima has been a key member of the Indian team for several years and was named the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 Emerging Player of the Tournament in Muscat, Oman, in January of last year. She made her Senior Women’s Team debut in the 2016 Test Series against Australia. In 2018, she assisted the Indian Women’s Junior Hockey Team in winning a silver medal at the third Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She was also a vital part of the Indian side that took home the gold medal in the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup Spain 2022. She also competed in the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup in South Africa in 2021.

The Hockey India President, Padma Shri Dr Dilip Tirkey, complimented the young midfielder for her commitment to Indian Hockey and congratulated her on winning the award. He said, “I congratulate Salima Tete for being honored with this award. It always gives me immense pleasure to see our Indian players getting the recognition they deserve on the global stage. She has been an asset to the Indian team for the past couple of years now, despite being one of the youngest members of the team. We are confident that she will continue to soar even higher in the years to come.”

Hockey India Secretary General Shri Bhola Nath Singh also congratulated Salima for her accomplishment. He added, “It is always a special moment for us at Hockey India when one of our players receives awards for their hard work. Salima Tete has been a special player and we are truly delighted to see her achieve success and get recognition on such a grand stage. I congratulate her for receiving the honor and hope to see her add more feathers to her caps in the years to come.”
