Indian hockey player Simranjeet Singh has rejoined the Indian hockey team in the national camp in Bengaluru after making a full recovery from an injury received during the Asia Cup 2022. The injury forced him to miss the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar – Rourkela earlier this year. However, the 26-year-old is now extremely focused and aiming to secure his place in the Indian team for the remaining season of the FIH Hockey Pro League 2022-2023 and the Asian Games 2022. The Asian Games are particularly significant since they provide a direct qualifying berth for the Paris Olympics 2024.

With the 39-member core group, Simranjeet Singh is presently undergoing training at the SAI Center in Bengaluru. After the national camp, a final team will be chosen, and they will go to Europe to play matches against Belgium, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Argentina in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2022–2023. Singh is currently concentrating on making the team for the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, which are scheduled to take place later this year. He thinks the competition is important for India since it gives them a chance to directly qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and demonstrate their dominance in Asia.

What Simranjeet Singh had to say about his inspiration

Despite being disheartened by missing the World Cup, Singh drew inspiration from Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr during his recovery period. “In sports, players can suffer injuries at any given moment but it depends on them how they deal with it and make a comeback. For me, Neymar served as an inspiration as despite getting injured numerous times, the Brazilian footballer has always made a strong comeback. Likewise, I also focused on regaining full fitness, did all the necessary things to make a comeback and most importantly, I never gave up,” he said.
