At the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India defeated Wales 4-2 in their final group-stage match of the 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup. This indicates that India came in second place in Pool D. The hosts grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opening period of play, but Wales quickly rallied from a goal down to tie the score with goals from two penalty corners in the 42nd and 44th minutes. With two more goals to end the match, India avoided the threat of a total comeback. Two goals were scored by Akashdeep Singh, while the team’s captain Harmanpreet Singh also scored a goal from a penalty corner.

Belgium will play Japan in the first group game at the Birsa Munda International Stadium, followed by Germany’s match against South Korea. Australia will strive to keep its position in the Group A encounter by defeating South Africa, while France will try to defeat Argentina to guarantee its place in the crossovers. This game will decide France’s fate.

Australia vs South Africa

The Australian team’s previous match against a tenacious Argentina team ended in a 3-3 draw. With four points and a +8 goal differential, they are currently in first place in Pool A. South Africa, meanwhile, has yet to record its first triumph in the competition after falling to France 2-1 in their previous match. They presently have a goal differential of -2 and are at the bottom of Pool A’s points standings. The Australians have already qualified for the competition’s cross-over stage and will be vying for a position in the quarterfinals.

South Korea vs Germany

With a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Japanese squad, the Korean team at the Hockey World Cup was finally able to score their first goal. With three points and a goal differential of -4, they have now ascended to the third position in Pool B’s points standings. The German squad fared well and held the defending champions Belgium to a 2-2 tie in their previous match after having a strong tournament debut. They presently hold the second-place spot in the Pool B points standings with five points and a +3 goal differential.

Belgium vs Japan

Belgium held Germany to a 2-2 tie in their last game after starting the campaign with a win. They are, however, now atop the Pool B points table, with four points and a goal difference of +5. Meanwhile, the Japanese team has yet to make an impression at the event. After losing their first game, they put on a good display against Korea but were defeated.

France vs Argentina

France launched their Hockey World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over South Africa in their previous match. With the win, they moved up to third place in Pool A’s points table, with three points and a goal difference of -7. After a strong start to the competition, Argentina held the Australians to a 3-3 tie in their previous match. They presently sit third in Pool A, with four points and a goal difference of +1.
