In the 20th match of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023, India will face Wales. On January 19, the match will be played at Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium. After a strong start to the tournament, the Indian squad was unable to register a goal after drawing 0-0 with the English in their previous match. With four points and a goal differential of +2, the hosts presently sit second in Pool D’s points table. Wales appeared absolutely out of sorts in both games, as their defence was torn apart by England and Spain, who both scored five goals against them. The 15th-ranked squad is currently at the bottom of the standings with a -9 goal difference.

Team India has already advanced to the tournament’s cross-over stage and will now look to get to the quarter-finals with a win in their upcoming game. England, India, and Spain are vying for the final two slots in the group. England and India are presently tied for first place with four points each, with England ahead on goal difference. If India and England both win their final group game and India’s goal difference exceeds England’s, India will win the group. After a wasteful effort against the three lions in the second game, India will also want to boost the confidence of the forwards. A strong win boosts their morale before the knockout stage begins.
