The Indian men’s hockey team beat Pakistan 10-2 in its fourth Asian Games 2023 hockey Pool A match. The match was played at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China on Saturday. The victory helped the Indian hockey team consolidate their position at the top of the Pool A hockey standings with four wins in as many matches. On the other hand, Japan and Pakistan are second and third, respectively, with nine points a piece. Additionally, India also has a massive goal difference of +41 from the three matches. The top two teams will advance into the semi-finals.

Indian captained Harmanpreet Singh (11′, 17′, 33′, 34′) starred in the victory with four goals. Harmanpreet completed his hat-trick in this mouthwatering clash. While Mandeep Singh (8′), Sumit (30′), Varun Kumar (41′, 54′), Shamsher Singh (46′) and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay (49′) accounted for the remaining six. Pakistan found two consolation goals from Muhammad Khan (38′) and Abdul Rana (45′). Interestingly, this was the 180th India vs Pakistan match in men’s hockey history. India now has won the contest 66 times compared to Pakistan’s 82. Not only that, but this was also the first time that Pakistan was blasted with 10 goals. Therefore, it also counts as the heaviest defeat for Pakistan’s national men’s team.
Even though Pakistan was thrashed left and right, the men in green gave their all to close down the deficit. However, PR Sreejesh wrapped up the win with a series of brilliant saves as Pakistan threw everything at India in the closing few minutes. India will next play Bangladesh in their final group game on Monday.
