The tournament in St. Simons Island, Georgia will feature two courses for the first two rounds - the Seaside and the Plantation.
The PGA TOUR’s 2022 calendar year concludes this week with the RSM Classic, which takes place at Sea Island Golf Club off the coast of Georgia from Thursday, November 17 to Sunday, November 20, 2022. The tournament in St. Simons Island, Georgia will feature two courses for the first two rounds – the Seaside and the Plantation. The Seaside course will be a par 70 and measure 7,005 yards in length, while the Plantation course will be a par 72 and measure 7,060 yards. However, both weekend rounds will be played on the Seaside course. Talor Gooch is the defending champion, however he will not be competing because he has joined the LIV Golf Series. Tony Finau, who clinched the Houston Open 2022 last week, withdrew from the competition on Tuesday.
A total of 156 players will compete in the event for the $8.1 million prize pool. The winner’s share of the competition is $1,458,000, with a 36-hole cut for the top 65 players. In addition, the winner will get a two-plus season exemption on the PGA Tour, 500 FedEx Cup points, and 36 Official World Golf Ranking points. Other prizes in the event include qualifying spots for next year’s Masters, PGA Championship, and Sentry Tournament of Champions. Brian Harman, Tom Hoge, Jason Day, and Joel Dahmen are among the golfers to watch out for.
The tournament made its debut in October 2010. Until 2015, the tournament was known as the McGladrey Classic, when the title sponsor’s name was changed from McGladrey to RSM US. The tournament’s new logo, which was painted by Rock Demarco, and resident tour pros Davis Love III and Zach Johnson helped to unveil it at the opening ceremony in March 2010. Heath Slocum defeated Bill Haas to win the inaugural competition in 2010 by one stroke. Since 2015, the competition has been held at Sea Island on both the Seaside and Plantation courses, with a larger field of 156 competitors. It served as the final PGA Tour tournament from 2015 and 2019 and in 2021.
