Jon Rahm displayed his class by defeating a strong field to win the DP World Tour Championship 2022. The Spaniard had a sluggish start to the competition on the Earth Course in Dubai, but as the round progressed, he became better. On Saturday, after hitting the front, he maintained his calm to beat competitors like Alex Noren, Tyrrell Hatton, and Rory McIlroy to win the championship for the third time. On the back nine, Rahm was challenged by the three golfers, but birdies on holes 13 and 15 gave him a three-shot lead. On the 18th tee, he was two shots ahead, and an errant drive to the left caused tension. He barely missed the water with his second shot from the brush, but it was enough to get him over the finish line and a third DP World Tour Championship crown.
Despite Jon Rahm’s victory at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai on Sunday, Rory McIlroy concluded the year as Europe’s top-ranked golfer for the fourth time (and first since 2015). The Spaniard’s two-shot triumph against Tyrrell Hatton of England and Alex Noren of Sweden was his third at Jumeirah Golf Estates in six years. After Matt Fitzpatrick, his sole opponent for the Harry Vardon Trophy faltered near the end of the season, McIlroy finished first in the DP World rankings. For McIlroy to finish in the top seven, Fitzpatrick needed to win and McIlroy to either come in second or third. Fitzpatrick, who was three shots off the lead going onto the eighth hole, double-bogeyed, and missed another shot at the hole.
