Following an impressive seven-game winning streak from May 28 to July 2, Yokohama F Marinos have experienced a downturn in form, failing to win their last three matches across all competitions. This includes consecutive defeats at home against Machida Zelvia and Kawasaki Frontale. Now, Muscat and his team are shifting their focus away from domestic responsibilities as they prepare for challenging friendly matches against two treble-winning teams: Celtic and Manchester City. They will face Celtic on Wednesday, followed by a match against Manchester City in the J1 League World Challenge.
Meanwhile, Celtic initiated their pre-season preparations with a 5-3 victory in a penalty shootout against Fraserburgh on July 1, following a goalless draw. Manager Brendan Rodgers’s squad arrived in Japan on Monday to prepare for two friendly matches against J1 League teams, Yokohama F Marinos and Gamba Osaka, within a four-day span. After their tour in Japan, the current Scottish Premiership champions will travel to Dublin to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on July 29. They will then return to Parkhead for James Forrest’s testimonial match against Athletic Bilbao three days later.
