The World Cup qualifying match between Uruguay and Brazil will take place at Estadio Centenario on Wednesday at 5:30 am IST.
In their 2026 World Cup qualification group, Brazil aims to get back on top when they face Uruguay in Montevideo. Brazil’s last match ended in a 1-1 draw with Venezuela, and Uruguay also shared points in their recent game, playing to a 2-2 draw against Colombia in Barranquilla. Uruguay has participated in the last four World Cup finals, finishing fourth in 2010, reaching the round of 16 in 2014, and the quarter-finals in 2018. However, their performance in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was disappointing, as they failed to advance past the group stage for the first time since 2002.
Under Marcelo Bielsa’s management, Uruguay has won one, drawn one, and lost one of their three 2026 World Cup qualifiers, accumulating four points, which places them fourth in the standings. Uruguay began their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Chile on September 9 but then suffered a defeat to Ecuador before settling for a 2-2 draw with Colombia in their most recent match. In the game against Colombia, they were close to a loss but secured a valuable point thanks to Darwin Nunez’s stoppage-time penalty.
On the other hand, Brazil started with 5-1 win over Bolivia followed it up with a 1-0 victory against Peru. However, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Venezuela. Brazil failed to advance beyond the quarter-final in 2022 World Cup. The national team is currently under the caretaker management of Fernando Diniz, and there are reports that Carlo Ancelotti is their top candidate to take over next year, although it remains uncertain whether Ancelotti will leave his role as the Real Madrid manager.
