Lionel Messi was all over the headlines in Indian media today as he signed with BYJU'S. Here are some of the fan reactions.
One of the greatest players of all time, Lionel Messi was all over the headlines in Indian media today as it was announced that the Argentine will now endorse the Indian education company as its brand ambassador. Messi, who himself is enjoying a great time on the pitch playing for Paris Saint-Germain and Argentina National Team, is a big addition for BYJU’S to promote their cause of equitable education.
In the last two years, BYJU’S has gained a lot of prominence for its work in the education sector and its efforts to promote remote learning. Now with the seven time Ballon D’Or winner associated with them, BYJU’S look to go even further in their social impact program, Education for All. The partnership between Messi and BYJU’S is a strong statement of the company’s intent regarding their global mission.
In what was a historic day for BYJU’S by getting on board with one of the world’s greatest athletes, the public response was filled with lot of mixed feelings. There was a section who perceived the news as a moment of pride with the aim to achieve more and more. However, in the recent controversy of BYJU’S regarding their employee dissatisfaction, some people were quick to point out the large number of employees who were being laid off from work. Here are some of these reactions.
Byjus announcing Messi as their global whatever when its CEO two days ago apologised to his employees that they let go is the reason you all should think twice before jumping to defend rich guys

they do not care about you, they care about money;
you’re just a data point to them
Whenever I watch Messi, the first thing I think about is subscribing to a Byjus course and becoming successful in life.

About to fire 2500 employees in the name of RATIONALISATION while unveiling Messi as brand ambassador, classic #byjus pic.twitter.com/DjYBcn0f30

After laying off employees, Byjus pays Messi to be an ambassador for social initiatives, now that’s Education for All!

This is how they arranged multimillions to meet Messi’s greed. pic.twitter.com/IxljmyUKu5
So basically @BYJUS fired almost 50% of their employees to hire this man.

What an amazing set of priorities @BYJUS have (pun intended)🙂 pic.twitter.com/8apMSFqRkp
What kind of kindness is this. Byjus fired almost quarter of their employees just to hire one of the greatest footballers of all the time.

Very poor from Messi and team to not do due diligence before signing for a brand like Byjus.

They laid off 1000s of employees a couple of weeks before to cut costs and now they have Messi onboard?
Not to forget their unethical business practices – how they mislead parents. https://t.co/XAAIFvTeLk
Byju’s making Messi their brand ambassador at a time when they are laying off thousands of their employees is rather very insensitive action.I am sure they would have spent millions on Messi. Byju,you definitely have lost respect in my eyes @BYJUS

This is the same company which fired 2500 employees to maintain ‘profitability’. Can’t stoop lower than this. Absolutely no ethics or integrity #byjus https://t.co/tNa6zXcVoJ
