The winners of the Women’s World Cup 2023 will be decided on Sunday when Spain face England in the final in Sydney. Spain are looking to win their first major trophy. England on the other hand will also look to get their hands on the coveted trophy for the first time in their footballing history.

Spain have experienced a memorable journey through the tournament. La Roja got off to a perfect start with comfortable victories over Costa Rica and Zambia. However, a heavy 4-0 defeat to Japan in their final group game raised doubts in the minds of their supporters. They managed to pick themselves up to produce a dominant performance in their last-16 tie against Switzerland. However, the European giants had to show their fighting qualities in the quarter-final against the Netherlands. Nevertheless, La Roja have scored 17 goals at the Women’s World Cup. They are the leading scorers at the tournament. This also proves that they have the firepower to trouble the European champions.

Meanwhile, England are preparing to appear in a major tournament final for the second year running. The Lionesses picked up maximum points in the group stage. They were then pushed all the way in their last 16 against Nigeria. Goals from Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo guided the European champions to a 2-1 win over Colombia. This set up a difficult semi-final tie against the tournament co-hosts Australia. The Lionesses demonstrated the grit and determination that had earned them a place in the semi-final to retake the lead through Hemp. Russo then found the net late on to wrap up a 3-1 win. This also sent England to their first-ever Women’s World Cup final. England may be able to draw inspiration from the fact that they edged out Spain to win last year’s meeting in the European Championships quarter-final.
