With the outcome of Group H still uncertain, an important Euro 2024 qualifying match is set to take place at Stadion Stozice on Saturday between Slovenia and Finland. The top four teams in the group are separated by just one point as they head into this month’s matches, and Slovenia currently holds the top position after six games. Except for their loss to Finland in Helsinki back in June, Slovenia has remained unbeaten in their other five Group H matches, securing consecutive wins in September.

In their recent meeting, Slovenia defeated San Marino 4-0 and also secured a 4-2 victory over Northern Ireland in Ljubljana. Slovenia hasn’t qualified for the European Championships since 2000, and their last appearance at any major finals was in the World Cup a decade later. Matjaz Kek, who was in charge during that World Cup appearance, aims to bring back the glory days in his second stint as national boss.

On the other hand, Finland began their journey to Germany strongly, leading Group H by two points after defeating Kazakhstan in September. They had also previously won 2-0 against Slovenia in June. However, a recent loss to Denmark saw them drop to third place, now trailing the top two teams by one point. The possibility of a playoff place based on their performance in League B of the UEFA Nations League offers Finland a backup plan, but gathering points in Ljubljana and in the upcoming home game against Kazakhstan could put them in a favorable position before the November.
