Slovakia U-19 are heading into the tie on the back of a 5-0 defeat against France U-19 while Italy U-19 defeated Romania U-19 2-1 in their last outing.
Slovakia Under-19s will take on Italy Under-19s in a European Championship fixture at Tranava’s Stadion Antona Malatinskeho on Tuesday. This year’s Under-19 Euros got underway on Saturday afternoon, as France took on hosts Slovakia in the opening game of the finals. It was a humiliating start to the campaign for the hosts as they were thrashed 5-0 by the French team in the previous match. Meanwhile Italy made a winning start in the finals, defeating Romania 2-1 in their last outing. After the completion of the first round of games, France occupy top spot in Group A with three points, level on points with Italy and separated by only goal difference.

Despite the home advantage, Slovakia came up with a disappointing performance against France on Saturday. The hosts registered just one shot on target and found the French team too hot to handle. Loum Tchouma opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Ange-Yoan Bonny and Alan Virginius netted a brace each to secure a five-star victory for France. Slovakia have only two games left to earn a spot in the knock-out stage. The top two finishers in both groups of this eight-team tournament not only qualify for the semi-finals, but also automatically qualify for the 2023 Under-20 World Cup in Indonesia.
Italy on the other hand, displayed a convincing performance to earn three points against Romania in their previous game. Tommaso Baldanzi’s stunning strike early in the second half broke the deadlock before Romania equalised through Luca Andronache. In the 68th minute, the substitute Cristian Volpato netted the winner for the Azzurini. It was a dominant performance from Carmine Nunziata’s side as they registered 11 shots on target compared to just one by the Romanians.

Centre forward Timotej Jambor will continue to lead the line up front. 16-year-old winger Leo Sauer, who made a good impression off the bench last time out, could be handed a place in the starting eleven. As for Italy, last game’s hero, Cristian Volpato is pushing for a spot in the starting eleven. Atalanta midfielder Samuel Giovane will captain the side.
